SINGAPORE — Two anti-tank dummy weapons have been handed over to the authorities by a member of the public after pictures showing them left by a roadside were posted online.
Photos of the weapons first surfaced online at 12.47pm today (Oct 16) on a Hardwarezone forum with the title “Who left his MATADOR by the roadside?”. The Ministry of Defence’s (MINDEF) website said the MATADOR (Man-portable Anti-Tank, Anti-DOoR) is a 90mm calibre man-portable disposable anti-armour weapon system.
The dummy weapons were found near the junction of Sungei Tengah and Old Choa Chua Kang roads. Nearby camps include Lim Chu Kang Camp II and Keat Hong Camp.
A post on The Singapore Army’s Facebook page this afternoon said the weapons had been discovered by a member of the public and handed over to the police and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
“The dummy weapons are meant only for training and are inert. The unit responsible has recovered the items. The SAF takes a serious view of this incident and investigations are currently under way,” said the Facebook post.
